For Al, and men in need like him

Al’s Story

Originally from Ontario, Al was employed in Hamilton’s industrial sector before moving to Newfoundland. He was one of the first drillers on the Hibernia platform.

During this time, Al was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Soon he was dabbling in cocaine, and not long after became fully addicted, losing his lucrative job, his home, and his wife and two children who returned to Ontario.

It took many attempts by many faithful and loving Christians from Deer Lake to turn Al Leonard’s life around. His stay at The Haven proved critical to his recovery. Without The Haven, Al felt he would have died. He has slowly recovered from his addiction and now lives at the Haven’s location on Route 430.

After recovering his health, Al reached out to his family last year, including his mother and sisters in Ontario—who had completely given up on him.

Through the generosity of the overall community, especially the congregation of Emmanuel Pentecostal Church in Deer Lake, Al was able to visit his family in time for his 63rd birthday—which he celebrated by taking the family out for dinner. He was also able to make restitution for past debts and has since been fully reconciled with his entire family.

Today, Al is now a transformed man, following the Lord’s direction, and living a life of purpose and meaning.
